The Honda Fit made its debut in Japan as a 5-door compact hatchback in 2001 and outsold the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla in its the first year, In 2002 the Honda Fit was unveiled in Europe and Australia as the Honda Jazz, while it arrived in South America and South Africa in 2003 and the following year it was officially launched in China.

2011 honda fit canadaThe Fit is now manufactured in 8 countries and sold in 115 countries, arriving in Mexico in late 2005 and finally arrived in Canada and the US in 2006, the Honda Fit has sold over 3.7 million unit by mid 2011. The Fit shares the same subcompact platform with the Honda City which was manufactured for Japan and Australia only and the Honda Freed a mini MPV vehicle manufactured in Japan since 2008.

When the Honda Fit arrived in Canada it replaced the popular Honda Civic hatchback, Honda lost it's 2-door hatchback until the 2011 Honda CR-Z arrived in Canada in late 2010. The Fit in Canada is slightly larger than other models due to safety regulations with larger front and back bumpers. The Honda Fit is equipped with a fuel efficient 1.5L VTEC 16-valve engine with 109HP, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission, in Canada it arrived in three trims; the base model Fit DX, and fully loaded Honda Fit LX, plus a performance package the Honda Fit Sport which includes 16 inch aluminum alloy rims, front and rear stabilizer bar, MacPherson suspension, ventilated front brakes, spoiler kit and fog lights.

The second generation Honda Fit arrived in Canada two years after its breakout version, it grew in size and weight adding more safety features, in Japan the Fit is also available with a 1.3L i-VTEC with 98HP, while in Canada the only engine available is an upgraded 1.5L i-VTEC engine, the second generation is built on a re-engineered platform, with better handling. The 2011 Honda Fit in Canada includes standard vehicle stability assist, cruise control and USB audio port which was previously only available with the Honda Fit Sport package. The new Fit also received 5-stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for frontal and side impact for the both the driver and passenger and 4-star for rollover ratings.

Honda showcased a concept Honda Fit EV (Electric Vehicle) at the 2010 AutoShow in Los Angeles sharing the drive terrain with the Honda Insight and 2011 CR-Z hybrid, while the 2010 Honda Fit hybrid made its debut in Japan, with a tested fuel economy of 3.3L/100km. While 2011 Honda Fit hybrid arrived is Europe in early 2011 there is no release date for the Canadian market. The Honda Fit was awarded the Japan Car of the Year in 2007 and 2008, nominated the Best Economy Car in 2008 for the US and Canada, and chosen Best Small Car and Best Car of the Year in 2007 by MotorWeek and Drivers Choice Awards.
