Honda Ridgeline Canada
The Honda Ridgeline is Honda's first pickup in Canada, manufactured in Alliston, Ontario since 2006. It falls into the SUT segment or Sport Utility Truck like the Ford Explorer Sport Trac and Hummer H2 SUT or a luxury SUT the Cadillac Escalade EXT. The Ridgeline in Canada is assembled with the Honda Civic and Civic Si plant, like the 2011 Ford Explorer the the Ridgeline is based on a car platform, making it the only pickup in Canada sharing this type of chassis, giving it a smoother drive and handling than a traditional pickup.
The Ridgeline is equipped with a V6 3.5L 24-valve SOHC engine with 250HP coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control, a first for a pickup truck is the 4-wheel independent suspension improving stability, handling and allowing space for a storage trunk under the truck bed, another first for a pickup, known as a "in-bed trunk". Its avaiable with an integrated trailer hitch and ground-controlling Variable Torque Management 4-wheel drive system (VTM-4), dual action tail gate which can flip down or swing open for easier access to the in-bed trunk.
The 2011 Honda Ridgeline in Canada is available in four trims; a basic Ridgeline DX, the Ridgeline VP which includes 17 inch aluminum rims, privacy glass and integrated fog lights; Ridgeline EX-L which adds sunroof, leather seats, 18 inch wheels, 6-disc in-dish CD changer with an upgraded audio system, 7 speakers and subwoofer; and the fully loaded 2011 Honda Ridgeline EX-L Navi with satellite-linked navigation system with voice recognition, hands-free Bluetooth telephone interface, Honda's HomeLink remote system and rearview camera.
Some standard features the all Canadian Ridgeline includes are; 4-wheel anti lock ABS brakes, with electronic brake distribution control (EBD) and brake assist which optimizes your brakes based on road conditions and cargo weight. A common issue when driving in extreme weather conditions in Canada is over-steering, which is corrected by the Vehicle Stability Assist system with traction control sensors enhancing handling and stability, and working with with Traction Control controls grip during acceleration. Plus tire pressure monitoring system which will indicate which tire is running low on air.
The Ridgeline won both the 2006 Truck of the Year by MotorTrend magazine and named the North American Truck of the Year, as well as being the first ever four door pickup truck to receive a five star safety and crash rating by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
